fire safety week pinnable2013

Next week is Fire Safety Week (Oct 6-12). This week is always near and dear to me for several reasons. One, being that I have young children and I want them to know how to get out safely and quickly in case of a fire. Two, I worked for an insurance company for nearly 9 years and I heard way too many fire-related tragedies. And three, because  several years ago some close friends of ours lost their pre-teen daughter and 2 year old son in a house fire. I was devastated at the news. It ripped me to the core!!

So, I guess you could say, Fire Safety Week is a little bit personal to me. I never want to think about my own home burning, but I also know that accidents happen and God is ultimately in control – not me. So with that in mind, I want to do all I can to prepare and educate my children. And if we can do that with fun printables…all the better! So I’ve gathered some of my favorite {free} Fire Safety Printables & Resources to share with you all!!

Resources

Check out this adorable DIY Fireman Air Tank you can easily make yourself!!!

Another activity you can do with your kids to train them how to crawl under the “smoke” is to create “fake smoke” in a hallway or area of the house. To do this, simply take a clear drop cloth and tape it up with some room under it to crawl. Practice with the kids in their beds, sitting in front of the living room, playing (and any other scenario you can think of), then yell “Fire! Fire!” and get everyone out of the house by crawling under the smoke. You can also time them to make it more of a game and encourage everyone to move as quickly as possible out of the house.
